Description
The E-Z Hatch® Attic Access Door is an air-tight, high-performance, energy-efficient attic access door. It is offered as R-50 or R-80, is triple-gasketed, pre-finished, and fits in a 22 ½” x 30 ½” rough opening. It is designed to fit both 16″ and 24″ on center framing.
The E-Z Hatch is easy to install and easy to use. The Deluxe version includes a 4 point locking latch with handles. The E-Z Hatch Attic Door can be used for new construction and retrofit. The locking model can be used in knee walls as well as attic entry.
The E-Z Hatch Attic Door with Lock is the only scuttle/attic access hatch kit available that meets the 2015 and 2018 International Conservation Code (IECC) Section R402.2.4 and the 2015 and 2018 International Residential Code (IRC) n1102.2.4 and Energy Star Thermal Bypass requirements used in all 50 states.
Triple gaskets provide an airtight seal. There is a gasket under the trim that sits against the ceiling, There is a gasket on the inside edge of the trim that the core sits on. And there is a light gasket in the back that seals the top of the core to the frame. These gaskets are fire rated per ASTM E84 for flame spread (FSI) 25 or less, smoke developed (SDI) 50 or less, (required by Code for exposed insulation), and meets code requirements.
The core of the door is 10 inches thick and made of Expanded Polystyrene foam that provides a better R-Value than fiberglass. It weighs less than 10 lbs.
The face of the door is glossed white, durable, and easy to clean. The lightweight door lifts up with little effort, allowing easy entry into your attic space.
With no hinges; the EZ Hatch is designed to prevent interference with the roof joists. Perfect for use with any type of attic insulation, including blown-in insulation. The 12 in. tall wood frame acts as an insulation dam, which holds the insulation back from the opening.

Code Requirements
2015, 2018 IRC Section N1102.2.3 and 2015, 2018 IECC Section R402.2.4 reads “Access doors from conditioned spaces to unconditioned spaces (e.g. attics and crawl spaces) shall be weather-stripped and insulated to a level equivalent to the insulation on the surrounding surfaces.”
These Code requirements mean the attic access pull down ladder or access hatch must now be insulated to the same level as the rest of the attic (minimum R-30).
