Description
HV Whole House Fans Informational Sheet
The HV1000 Whole House Fan easily mounts in the attic on 16 or 24 inch on center joists and is operated by a SPST wall switch, or spring-wound timer. The fan can be installed vertically or horizontally. This 1000 CFM* fan quickly circulates air and cools your home whenever the outdoor air is cooler than the indoor air. The HV1000 Whole House Fan operates at one speed to exhaust hot air, indoor air pollutants, allergens, moisture, and odors out through attic vents or gables while pulling cool, fresh air into the home through the open windows. The air exchange naturally cools your home and can improve the indoor air quality.
Like all Tamarack HV Series Whole House Fans, the HV1000 Whole House Fan features a unique self-sealing door design. The unit includes R38 or R50 insulated doors that open automatically when the fan is operating and seal shut automatically when the fan is off. The insulated door design prevents cool air from escaping your living area to the attic. The insulated doors also prevent heat loss through the attic during the cooler months.
Installing an HV1000 Whole House Fan reduces energy consumption and saves money. Tamarack’s Whole House Fans use 10% of the energy of a central air conditioning system thus cooling your home while reducing your energy bill.
As a result of the high quality of this product and ease of installation, the Tamarack HV fans have been featured twice on the popular home improvement show “Ask This Old House”. A clip of the episode can be viewed here.

Ryan Barth –
Our HV-1000 arrived in perfect condition this week. The actual installation was duck soup thanks to Tamarack’s fine on-line documentation, which permitted me to complete all framing and rough-in wiring in advance.
I did encounter an attic space issue and thought potential customers might be interested in my devised solution, which worked perfectly.
I can’t be the first customer to have hit this snag: At our desired location, I did not have an unobstructed joist space into which to fit the fan. Because I’m a DIYer, my knee jerk reaction was that the HV would not work for us. But after thinking it through, I worked out the attached solution.
The solution would probably abundantly obvious to a contractor, but it struck me that other DIYers might walk away (as I nearly did) because of space restrictions that could be resolved with the alternative framing scheme.
We’ are delighted with our new HV. Looking forward to Fall when it will be cool enough in Austin to enjoy it!

We replaced an old-style fan and have to say these are simply amazing. Way better than the old-style fans, much quieter and install was nowhere near as complicated.

I have owned an HV1000/HV1600 whole house fan since the mid-90s. I installed it myself. It has never failed me. I have chosen to purchase a replacement as it is only beginning to exhibit some signs of all the service it has flawlessly provided. The efficiency of these units is self-evident. I have avoided the cost of buying air conditioning for all these years. A great product!

I just installed this fan and LOVE it. It works and its beautiful to see in operation when the wings(that’s what I like to call) flip open. Its not very noisy at all and installation was also not hard. And, its made in USA

I have installed Tamarack Technologies whole house fans in three different homes over the last 25 years and am about to do my 4th install in my son’s home. These are great, easy to install, whole house fans that run quite and have proven to be very reliable over the years. I recommend them highly.

I also have owned an HV1000 whole house fan since the mid-90s. I also installed it myself. It has been awesome. I just bought a replacement. Who would guess it would last 20 years! Saves a ton of money on AC costs: cools the attic and the occupied space. It is very quiet; only a subtle low-frequency hum (that chases away the nasty crows that like to congregate on my roof – an undocumented feature!)
